Little Earthquakes, Big Reminder
Every morning, I wake up and read The Oregonian online. This habit makes me better informed about local news, but also makes me consistently late. Such a double-edged sword…
In any case, on Saturdays I don’t have to worry about that, and I had ample time to read through a fascinating O article about a series of small earthquakes off the Oregon coast.
Seems the more than 600 quakes haven’t caused any problems, though three have been of magnitude 5 or larger. While there’s no clear reason for the tremors (possibly the Juan de Fuca plate crumpling), this is a perfect reminder that we live in earthquake territory and that it’s vital for us to be prepared for such activity at all times.
Do you know what to do in case of an earthquake? The three basic rules are get a kit, make a plan and be informed, but you can find out more earthquake-specific info here.
