RED CROSS ASSISTING 50 PEOPLE DISPLACED BY HOTEL FIRE IN NEWPORT; TEMPORARY SHELTER ESTABLISHED

Disaster responders with the American Red Cross Cascades
Region are assisting approximately 50 people displaced by a multiple structure
fire in Newport, OR. The fire affected two Newport hotels, the City Center
Motel and the Days Inn.

The Red Cross is providing a food and a safe place for evacuees to stay while
the fire is contained and damage is assessed. The temporary Red Cross shelter
is located at the Newport Armory, 541 SW Coast Hwy in Newport, OR.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to
victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches
skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports
military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit
organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American
