Ms. Tapia was evacuated from her home due to the threat of wildfires, but the danger level has been downgraded for the area where she lives so she is returning home. She says she will keep her bags packed in case the fire threatens her home again in which case she will return to the American Red Cross shelter.

Oregon wildfires have displaced people and animals. American Red Cross volunteer Gaenor Speed enjoys spending a moment with a dog that is currently being cared for at the Jackson County Expo and Fairgrounds, in Central Point, OR on Sunday, September 13, 2020. The Red Cross works with partners to provide care for animals and pets. As a shelter worker, Gaenor provides care for the people housed at the Expo Center in the Fairgrounds complex.

American Red Cross volunteer nurse Aaron Strong checks on Sally Wilson, who lost everything in the recent fires. Sally suffers from diabetes and needed medication. Sally told Aaron, “It gives me comfort to stay in a shelter because there are others that understand what I am going through, and that gives me support and hope.” Sally got the attention and medication she needed at the American Red Cross shelter at the Jackson County Expo and Fairgrounds in Central Point, OR on Sunday September 13, 2020. She thanked the Red Cross for all their help.
