Mid-week Beach Trip

Stop me if you’ve heard this one…A senator, a geologist, and a weatherman go to the beach…

Okay, it’s not a joke. It’s a county-wide emergency preparedness fair in Seaside this Wednesday (2pm – 8pm). And it’s a great excuse reason to visit the beach mid-week!
You’ll have the chance to meet Senator Betsy Johnson, Representative Deborah Boone, and experts from the OSU Extension Office, Clatsop County Hazard Mitigation Planning, OSU O.H. Hinsdale Wave Lab (Sidenote: They have live “wave cams” on their website. How cool!), Department of Geology & Mineral Industries (DOGAMI), National Weather Service, NOAA, Oregon Emergency Management, Seaside Tsunami Amateur Radio Society (STARS), and of course the American Red Cross.
They’re having all sorts of activities, exercises and discussions about preparing for tsunamis, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Get all the details here.
I’d love to go and pester the wave lab folks with questions about tsunamis (being from the Midwest, I’m fascinated with ocean phenomena), but I have to stay here in Portland. If any of you go, please send me photos!
