Study: Extreme Heat Waves Ahead
Being a native Oregonian, it should be no surprise that I love the weather around here…most of the time. Last weekend, it got HOT — heading into the triple digits — which is really not my cup of tea.
For that very reason, this article scares the heck out of me. The quote from study author Andreas Sterl is downright chilling (or heating?): “In a few decades, people will look back at those heat waves [with temps of 104 and 106] and we will laugh. We will find (those temperatures) lovely and cool.”
And don’t forget that extreme heat melts glaciers (which can lead to flooding) and, as U of Wisconsin’s Dr. Jonathan Patz says, it “puts a huge demand on the body, especially anyone with heart problems.”
Scary stuff. Be ready.
