NDART: Like The Red Cross For Animals

After my post yesterday about preparing pets for disasters, I got a very nice e-mail from Alexis, who’s currently creating the Baltimore City Animal Response Team.

Here’s what she said:

I thought you might want to mention the disaster animal response teams around the country. There is a National Disaster Animal Response Team through the Humane Society of the United States. In addition, there are various State and County animal response teams that people can get involved in (details can be found at www.sartusa.org).

In addition, www.ready.gov is a great resource and has a tremendous amount of individual disaster preparedness information including details for your pets, more specifically how to make/what goes in a pet disaster go-kit.

Really great resources, Alexis…thanks for passing them on!

And, readers, how cool is NDART as the Red Cross equivalent for animals? Sounds like another fantastic volunteer experience…
