The American Red Cross in Boardman has closed its emergency shelter after assisting 18 families involved in the Friday Dec. 26, apartment fire. The local American Red Cross volunteers operated the shelter 2 days and 3 nights providing 109 meals and secure shelter for 18 displaced apartment residence. Prior closing the emergency shelter the local American Red Cross Volunteers assisted in locating temporary housing, clothing and food for the displaced individuals and families.
Approximately 10 adult volunteers and 4 youth volunteers staffed the shelter at various times. Drop in volunteers from the community of Boardman also provided valuable assistance.
Two adults had a house fire in The Dalles. The local American Red Cross Volunteers will contact the adults, and provide service if requested.
Five adults and three children had a fire in Milwaukie on Dec. 25. The American Red Cross volunteers assisted the family with motel, food and clothing.
