Worldwide Wednesday Wrap-Up
Welcome to the Worldwide Wednesday Wrap-Up, in which we consolidate the major (and sometimes small, but interesting) international Red Cross and Red Crescent news into one list of bite-sized links for you…
IRAQ: Last year the ICRC and the Iraqi Red Crescent together facilitated some 40,000 family news exchanges between detainees in Iraq and their family members, mainly through Red Cross messages.
The ICRC, acting as a neutral intermediary, is still helping to repatriate the remains of Iraqi and Iranian soldiers from the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. Read more highlights of ICRC activities in Iraq here.
CAMEROON: The Cameroon Red Cross and the IFRC partner with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to bring food aid – and hope – to refugees.
SOMALIA: Continuing conflict combined with drought conditions means that millions of Somalis depend on humanitarian aid. The ICRC is providing more than 100,000 people with shelter, water and medical care.
