Our World. Your Move.
Today is the 90th anniversary of the founding of the League of Red Cross Societies (later renamed the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies).
Personally, I think “league” sounded cooler than “federation.” The word brings up images of cape-wearing do-gooders fighting to save the world.
Actually, aside from the capes, that’s a pretty accurate description. The IFRC is made up of 186 Member Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (including the American Red Cross), who join forces (sounds pretty “league-ish” to me!) to support relief operations worldwide.
You read about these global efforts each week in the Worldwide Wednesday Wrap-Up. But now you can take actually take action.
In honor of this momentous anniversary, the IFRC has launched the Our World. Your Move. campaign:
Our world faces unprecedented challenges, ranging from conflict and mass displacement to climate change, migration and a global financial crisis. We have a collective responsibility to make our world a better place. It’s up to each of us, as individuals, to make a move and do something to help others.
