Remember Lizzie Bell? Her touching story about her constant need for blood transfusions caught America’s attention last March when she was featured on the hit television show Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

I’m sad to report that Lizzie is in an Intensive Care Unit right now and that she has been receiving blood transfusions since last Friday. I don’t have the details of her current condition, but according to Lizzie’s mother Kathy, if Lizzie’s health does not improve soon, she may need a bone marrow transplant. I’d like to join Lizzie’s mother in encouraging people to sign up to donate life-saving blood and to be part of the national bone marrow registry. Both take little time, but can make a huge difference in someone else’s life.
