Who will be there to help?
The following excerpt was sent to first responders at
Clackamas Fire District #1 in Milwaukie, Oregon, by a grateful family member.
We are humbled and honored that the Red Cross was included in this letter.
My sister was unfortunate to have had a fire consume her
apartment on December 15, 2012. I just wanted to take a minute to express my
gratitude to you and your team, who represented Clackamas County Fire District
No. 1. I was impressed with the empathy you showed by listening and getting
answers to our questions. I also appreciated the Red Cross and the call that
was made to get Red Cross to the site to assist my family members. The
resources provided to my sister and her husband helped to purchase daily
essentials since they lost everything in the fire. Well, everything, but the
Christmas presents that my sister insisted on saving, and which were
conveniently placed by the front door.
