Wildfire Safety

·      It’s wildfire season, make sure you are prepared
to defend your home. Set aside household items that can be used as fire tools
such as rakes, axes, hand saws, chain saws, buckets and shovels. Keep an
extra-long hose at the ready as well. It is possible you will need to put out a
small fire before emergency responders arrive.
·
While you and your family are planning an
evacuation route out for a wildfire, keep a few things in mind.
o
Plan and practice two ways out of your
neighborhood in case your primary route is blocked.
o
Select a place for family members to meet
outside your neighborhood in case you cannot get home or need to evacuate.
o
Identify someone who is out of the area to
contact if phone lines are not working.

·
With it being wildfire season being upon us in
full force, we are double checking our preparedness kits to make sure we have
everything we need.  Our top items
include water, non-perishable foods, flashlight, radio, medications,
multi-purpose tool, cash and emergency blankets. And, of course, a kit for each
pet! What items do you have in your kit?
