Shelter Open at 1314 SW Park Ave

PORTLAND, Ore.
January 6, 2017– The American Red Cross, in coordination with Central City
Concern and other community partners, has identified a new shelter location for
people affected by a January 4th apartment fire on SW Alder Street.

The new shelter for displaced residents will be housed at:

University of Portland
Howard Hall
5000 N Willamette Blvd.
Portland, OR 97203

Red Cross relief workers will operate the shelter. The facility will have
showers for use by residents displaced because of the fire. Transportation to
the shelter will be provided for residents by TriMet.

Shelter Numbers:
Thus far, approximately 100 Red Cross responders, plus community partners have
assisted in this response by:
* Providing approximately 800 meals and snacks
* for 64 residents affected by the fire.

Residents affected by the SW Alder apartment fire seeking updates may call the
Central City Concern hotline: 971-352-8730.

Ongoing Assistance:
The Red Cross will continue to work closely with Central City Concern and other
community partners to address the disaster-related sheltering needs of the
individuals affected by the fire on SW Alder. Following a disaster, the primary
focus of the Red Cross is to assist people affected by a disaster to address
their immediate and basic needs. This often involves temporary shelter, food,
the replacement of prescription medications, eyeglasses and other medical
devices, and connecting the affected people with community resources to empower
them in their recovery.

PORTLAND, Ore. January 5, 2017– The American Red Cross continues to assist people displaced by an apartment fire that occurred on January 4, on SW Alder St. in Portland. 

Shelter Numbers: 
More than 70 Red Cross volunteers and staff, plus community partners have assisted affected residents by: 
– providing more than 700 meals and snacks 
– for 64 residents affected by the fire.

People who were affected by the fire on SW Alder and are unable to return to their residences may still come to the Red Cross Shelter, located at:

PORTLAND, Ore.
January 5, 2017– The American Red Cross provided overnight shelter to 51
people displaced by an apartment fire on SW Alder St. in Portland. Shelter
volunteers have served 250+ meals and snacks and are working with community
partners to address the immediate needs of residents affected by the fire,
including health-related needs (replacing prescription medications, eyeglasses
and medical equipment).

The shelter for displaced residents will remain open for the next several days
and/or as long as there is a need. The Red Cross shelter is located at:

People affected by the fire and in need of shelter assistance are encouraged to
simply show up at the shelter for help.
