China Earthquake: How To Contact Friends and Family -

I know we have a lot of international readers right now so I’m posting this info for both people in China and here in the U.S.

If you are looking for family or friends in China:

In Sichuan, the Red Cross Society of China in cooperation with China Netcom has opened a hotline for donations and tracing missing family members. The hotline number is +86 116114 and the website is http://xunqin.169ol.com. People can also post information about missing family members on the website. (Kind of like the Chinese version of www.safeandwell.org in the U.S.) This site is not available in English as far as I can tell.
For inquiries concerning US Citizens living or traveling in China, call the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or 202-647-5225.
