So, yeah, it looks like we have actually been responding to more fires than usual lately. Yesterday, Rodney in Emergency Services sent out a special volunteer recruitment email that started out like this…

UNBELIEVABLE – DAT TEAMS ON THE GO!

Disaster Action Team responders have assisted displaced victims 14 times over the last 16 days. This averages to ‘one call every 27 hours’. In each case, our dedicated volunteers have given their all to make sure people are safe, warm, and comfortable following a devastating event.

If you’ll recall, our average is usually more like one call every 36 hours. Again, we don’t know what’s causing the upswing in incidents, but we do know that our volunteers are busy!
