Who Took Greg Biffle???
First of all, I have a confession to make. I have lied to you, dear readers, and I feel just terrible about it. But what’s even more terrible is that GREG BIFFLE HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED!
If you’ve been reading the comments on the blog, you would have seen this one from Anonymous:
“Who took Greg Biffle? – I have been greeting him personally (ok the life size card board cut out) since I started here.”
This was, of course, in response to my mention of spiffing up the building for Gail’s visit and the removal of all Red Cross Racing gear.
I responded with a blatant lie:
“I have kidnapped Greg Biffle [‘s lifesize cardboard cutout] and am holding him hostage ’til we win the Blog-Off! NASCAR fans, you had better vote if you want to see your beloved racer again!”
Clearly I should not have joked around with such a volatile personality, because Anonymous (or another blog reader, I can’t be entirely certain), delivered a hot pink and purple message to me this afternoon. If you can’t tell from the photo, it simply says: “I HAVE GREG.”
I’m afraid that things might go a little SAW V around here, so if anyone has a guess about the culprit’s identity, they should comment below. Hopefully Greg will make it back to his home at the front desk in the next day or two. If he does, we promise not to report it to the authorities.
P.S. My suspicion is that the kidnapper is someone in Blood Services. Those folks are major trouble. Watch out.

So, what is the Red Cross policy on ransom payments?
This is a very good question. Based on the Bettencourt incident, I know that the Red Cross doesn’t want to jeopardize their important role by aligning with either side of a conflict. Goes against our policy of neutrality.
On the other hand, Greg is kind of our mascot at the moment, and we’re charged with protecting human rights.
It’s a dilemma, to be sure… We might have to ask Polly, our International Humanitarian Law expert.
Still, what happens at OTC HQ, stays at OTC HQ. No one would ever know that we paid out a ransom. Unless we blogged about it.
