Delivering A Red Cross Message
On Aug. 25, a letter came into our office, from the International Family Tracing Services: “Dear colleague: In reference to the above, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has requested your assistance in delivering the attached sealed envelope to the above inquirer.” The person did already know of the death, but the sealed letter was verification by the ICRC.
I was able to contact the family by phone, but because of what the letter was regarding I felt it best to do a home visit. On Saturday, I went to the individual’s home. Because of my telephone conversations with the daughter, the individual and her family felt comfortable to invite me into their home. They were very thankful for the letter and thanked me for delivering it.
I feel honored to be part of the American Red Cross – whose status as a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has the responsibility of delivering Red Cross messages – and to do family tracing.
