Disaster Action Team Responses

On Jan. 30, 2009 a family had a fire in Tualatin. The family does have homeowners insurance but did need Red Cross assistance. When the American Red Cross volunteers arrived, they gave the family lodging in a motel, until the family had time to contact their insurance agent.

On Jan. 31, 2009 there was a fire a single unit apartment fire, in Seaside. When the local American Red Cross Volunteers arrived they helped an individual with:

-A client assistance card to shop for food.
–Lodging in a nearby motel.

Early, this morning, Feb 2, 2009, there was an apartment fire in Portland. When the American Red Cross volunteers arrived they assisted three adults and one child and one infant with:

— A client assistance card to shop for clothing, seasonal garments, food, and crib and baby infant
linens.
— Lodging in a nearby motel.
–Adult comfort kits containing shampoo, razor, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth,
soap, and Kleenex.
Children’s comfort kit containing shampoo, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, soap,
Kleenex, coloring book and crayons.
— A stuffed animal to comfort the child.

Mental Health volunteers will follow up since the family’s neighbor died in the fire.
Nursing Volunteers will follow up with the family for possible medication needs.
