“Live to Give” Summer Blood Drive Kick-Off in Pioneer Square 7/3

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: collecting blood during the summer is not an easy task. Blood donations typically decline as regular donors take vacations around major holidays like the 4th of July and all throughout the summer.

To try to avoid this typical summer decrease in blood donations, the Red Cross Pacific Northwest Region, KGW NewsChannel 8, and the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront are partnering to help save lives with the Live to Give Summer Blood Drive. Our goal for donations between July 1 and August 18 is 30,000 units of blood–a big task that will definitely require your help.

The Live to Give Summer Blood Drive kicks off tomorrow 7/3 at 11:00 am in Pioneer Courthouse Square. To make an appointment to donate at this drive, click here or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. Cupcake Jones–one of the tasty places in Portland–has generously donated some of their famous red velvet cupcakes to help donors boost their blood sugar after they give blood. Yum!
So as you pack up your camping gear or head to the airport this summer, please remember that the need for blood never takes a vacation. Help ensure that blood is available for patients in need by donating blood this summer at an American Red Cross blood drive.
