Who Survives When Disaster Strikes?
Aside from the Washington Post article, I wanted to point you in the direction of an article from Time magazine’s June issue, all about how people respond in disaster situations.
It gives some great case studies and, at the bottom, there’s a link to a blog written by author Amanda Ripley.
Amanda isn’t just any average Jane — she’s a senior writer for Time and has traveled the world studying both natural and man-made disasters. And she has put all that knowledge into a book (which the Time article is based on) called The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes — And Why.
I like Amanda’s blog and am giving serious thought to reading the book. Seems like we should have a copy here at the chapter to share with interested staff and volunteers, no?
P.S. I want that worldwide disaster alert map on the blog. Hopefully we can make it happen!

Ooh, I am SO going to read that book! If only I was in a book club, I could get other people to read it with me.
