‘Snow Joke. It’s Cold Out There!
Well, we can’t let today go by without mentioning Snowpocalypse ’08 (as it has come to be known around the Portland blogosphere). Maybe the snow isn’t as deep as you’d expected, but that doesn’t mean it’s harmless.
We can all have a giggle at how freaked-out Portlanders get about snow, but the truth is, baby it’s cold outside.
Dangerously cold.
That’s why for the past two nights we’ve opened up our Emergency Warming Centers. On the first night 100 people stayed overnight with us. On the second night, 200 did.
But even if you’re fortunate enough to have a warm place to stay, there are still some precautions you need to take. That’s why we made a special web page for winter storm tips called oregonredcross.org/winter.
If you want to see what people around town are saying about the snow conditions, twitter users have been tagging their messages with #pdxtst (for Portland Twitter Storm Team). Follow it or use it yourself to update folks about your area.
Stay warm and safe!
